Some Thoughts...

How many of you hear school bells chiming and kids whining?  For many of us, that means "Back to School Time."

For parents and kids alike, it can be hectic getting back into the swing of things.  Read on for some ideas to make the transition from summer time to school time a bit easier for everyone.

Back to School Shopping

  1. Watch local department stores for sales.  Look for tax free shopping days!
  2. Shop early in the morning.  Pack a snack for young children.  Take breaks.
  3. Set a defined budget.  Many items are fifty percent off if purchased after Labor Day.
  4. Shop on-line and avoid the crowds.
Setting Routines

  1. About one week prior to school, get children to bed earlier by twenty minutes.  Don't forget to WAKE up earlier as well.  Practice your morning routine.
  2. Choose clothes the night BEFORE.  Use a six pocket cloth garment hanger to lay out each day's clothes--better yet, do this on Sunday evening.
  3. Have ONE drop spot close to the door for backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.
  4. For younger children, set up a routine chart that they can refer to in the morning with each responsibility. (Example: make bed, brush hair, eat, brush teeth).
  5. Turn OFF the TV!  It is a major distraction and studies show that, "elementary school children eat nearly twenty percent of their daily calories while watching television."

"Being organized is not about being perfect.
It is about finding a system that works for YOU."
