Tips for Taxes

With just a month left before taxes are due, it's time to get to work.  Taxes can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but see below for some tips on last-minute prep and tips that can help you get organized for next year!

1) Organize:  Organization is key to so many things, and the same holds true for your taxes.  Keep a safe place (or filing system) set up for all tax-related materials (receipts, documents, etc.) so you can find everything when the time comes.

2) Note the Charitable: Take stock of everything you donate when bringing things to thrift shops or other places of charity.  Keep a list of everything you donated and make sure you get a receipt for your items.

3) Document Expenses: Make sure you keep track of all work-related expenses (travel expenses, supplies, tools, technology, etc.) that were purchased.  This is especially true if you own your own business.  Just keep everything well-documented and your tax expert will likely help with the rest.

Overall, tax season is nothing to fret about!  Just stay organized with these tips and everything will be turned in in no time.

Clutter Awareness Month
March is host to Clutter Awareness Month!

Take advantage of this time to declutter some space in your life:

  • If you don't love it - it's clutter - get rid of it!
  • Empty out random drawers and find better ways to utilize the space
  • Pick one area at a time to declutter so your whole house doesn't overwhelm you
  • Store off-season clothes in separate bins in another closet or room

Eliminating clutter makes spaces feel more open and bright -- start tackling a small project today!

"Think Spring" - Spring Cleaning Prep

It's not quite nice enough to open the windows and spend a breezy afternoon cleaning and organizing just yet, but don't let that stop the preparations!  Being prepared for spring cleaning is just as crucial and accomplishing the tasks.  Use these tips to get ready for the warm days ahead:

  • Schedule:  Set aside a specific time (a day, a weekend, 2 weekends, whatever works best) and plan your cleaning attack!  Things go much more smoothly with a plan.
  • Gather Supplies:  Spring cleaning can be a daunting task, and if you start just to realize you don't have the appropriate tools, it can get frustrating.  Take stock of what you have already (in the way of cleaning products, tools, etc.) and go out and get the rest before anything gets started.
