Summer Games

Do you remember the games when your were a child?  Red Light, Green Light? Ghost in the Graveyard?  TV Tag?  Well, get some of that childhood spirit back and "play" these organizing games.

1.  Catch Up  (1-4 Players)   Time:  30-60 minutes
Decide on a room to play "Catch Up."  Perhaps your closet needs to be purged.  I
recently caught up on photos and put them into albums--nothing fancy.  I'd love to
scrapbook, but it isn't going to happen--no time, no patience, and if it doesn't peel
open, it is too much effort for me.  Not as cute, but I got the job done.

2.  Keep Up  (1-4 Players)    Time:  10-15 minutes
What can you do daily to keep up with "things?"  Can't remember what groceries to
buy?  Keep a list on the refrigerator.  Consult your family calendar the night before.
Make the coffee the night before, so you can push the on button in the morning.
Keep all mail in one location so you don't waste time, energy, or money searching
     for your bills.

3.  Get Ahead  (1-4 Players)  Time:  5-10 minutes
Decide what you would like to get ahead on.  Find small solutions for on-going
problems.  For me, it is my children's clothes.  I  have placed two clear containers
in their closets.  One is marked, Donate, the other tub is, Store.  When the seasons
change or they children grow out of clothes, I simply place the item in the corrrect
container.  Voila!  I am "Ahead of the Game!"

Ask Andi...
Q:  Dear Andi, Andi's photo

The type of work I do requires me to be in my vehicle a lot.  It is my mobile office.  However, I share my vehicle with my family of young children who like to explore while getting in and out of the van.  Due to their exploration, my brochures, forms, and applications needed for business get bent, dirty, or torn.  How can I organize and protect these important documents while still making them easily accessible for my presentations?                      Sincerely, Traveling Professional

A:  Dear Traveling Professional,

Probably every person who works out of their car is listening right now! Here are some suggestions:

  1. Use an old briefcase or bag to store those items.
  2. Look into products called "Mobile Offices."  They are made just for working out of your car.  Check out office supply stores.  Prices range from $40-400.  An added benefit to buying something, is that it will be used directly for your business and can be a tax write-off.
  3. If price is an issue, use a flexible file folder or plastic box that can be closed. You want to separate the brochures, forms, etc. into their own containers.
  4. Store items in your trunk--it will keep those curious fingers and feet away from expensive business forms.

I will answer some of your burning questions that you may have about organizing your home and family.  Email me at andi@allsquaredaway.com and your question may be featured in my monthly column.
