Before:
1. Have all of the supplies you need (garbage
bags, boxes, containers, markers, cleansers,
etc.) on hand.
2. Eliminate distractions (TV, pets, kids, chatty
neighbors, phone calls, etc...)
3. Make a plan for the space.
4. Set a goal.
Example: Two hours of organizing, three
boxes sorted/purged/put away, five bags
donated, or what fraction of the room is
decluttered?
During:
1. START, STAY, and FINISH the job in one
space (refer to your plan).
2. Do not leave the space to put other things
away elsewhere. Categorize items into
containers or boxes.
3. Toss or donate the items that you don't use.
4. If you decide to have a garage sale, have a
"back up" plan for the items that did not
sell. DO NOT bring the items back into the
house. Donate them.
After:
1. Put things away.
2. Congratulate yourself and your efforts.
3. Get out of the house and reward yourself
with a walk in the woods, a movie, or a
dinner with friends.
